Egypt cabinet resigns after three days of violent clashes

The cabinet has submitted its resignation to the military council amid the swelling protest in Cairo’s Tahrir square. Since Friday at least 35 were killed, as riot police are responding to crowds’ stones with tear gas and rubber bullets.

The cabinet’s spokesman Mohamed Hegazy said that “considering the difficult circumstances the country is going through in the current period, the government will continue to perform its full duties until a decision on the resignation is made,” state news agency MENA quoted him as saying.

The move followed the resignation of Egypt's Culture Minister Emad Abu Ghazi on Sunday.
